'Little Redhead' Spigelia Plant
'Little Redhead' Spigelia Plant

One of our loveliest American natives. It can be hard to find Spigelia marilandica, presumably because there hasn't been much widespread propagation. We feel lucky to have gotten our hands on a few to share with you. Grow in any well drained but moist soil. It grows in sun or shade with a preference for partial sun. Offer more moisture in sunnier locations, and less in shadier settings. 'Little Redhead' tops out at 28". Even though it is only rated to zone 5, ours have all overwintered here in our supposed zone 3. As always take zone recommendations with a grain of salt.
