'Little Redhead' Spigelia Plant

One of our loveliest American native. It can be hard to find Spigelia marilandica, presumably because there hasn't been much widespread propagation. We feel lucky to have gotten our hands on a few to share with you. Grow in any well drained but moist soil. It grows in sun or shade with a preference for partial sun. Offer more moisture in sunnier locations, and less in shadier settings. 'Little Redhead' tops out at 28". We know it will be marginally hardy for us here in zone 3, but hope that deep snow and a layer of leaves will help us enjoy this American treasure.
