I have an unreasonable affinity for painful plants. Echinops aren't pokey on the same level as thistles, but perhaps best not to prance through them in your bikini. Jeans will do just fine.
The foliage and flowers alike add structure to your perennial garden, and the glowing orbs of blue make me giddy. The bees love them. They cut well, and even dry well. They will lightly reseed around the garden, but in a charming way.
