52 Dinners - Week 5: Cheese for Dinner

52 Dinners - Week 5: Cheese for Dinner
We were in Gran Canaria for our annual winter holiday in 2019. It’s a small Spanish island off of the coast of Morocco. And though it’s warm, beautiful, and the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate, the resort-y part of the island where we stay is not known for being a culinarian’s paradise.
So we took to cooking most of our meals in the modest kitchenette of our rented bungalow. It consisted of two burners, a mini fridge, and some ikea cookware.
Dinners that Bailey and I share are generally pretty simple and straightforward, things like stir-fries, entrée salads, curries, soups, meat and cheese, or sometimes just Pringles and gin.
.
That night was a nice little spread of Spanish goodies, paired with some wine from Tenerife, the next island over in this subtropical archipelago.
Hablo un poquito español, pero es muy mal, and grocery shopping is always quite an adventure.
One of the pieces of cheese I bought was simply labeled “special old”, and another said only “hard." My translations. Some chevre, chorizo, cured jámon, membrillo, apples, and grapes from the mainland rounded things out, along with some nice jam and fresh Canarian strawberries that I picked up at a market that morning. I also found a delightful marzipan tart, some local honey rum, and a bouquet of lilies for Bailey at said market!
I completed this charcuterie board with crackers and bread from the bodega next door. Shop cheeses and pantry essentials from Kingdom Direct, and build your own charcuterie board.
