52 Dinners - Week 48: Giving Thanks...Traditionally
I have so much for which to be thankful.
There were 10 of us last night for a very traditional Thanksgiving.
We got a massive 22-pound turkey from our friend Hannah up the road at Hillside Farm, which I spatchcocked and salted on Monday.
I made an herbaceous garlic butter, chilled and sliced it, then shoved it under the skin before roasting.
The sides were all the usual suspects: mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, scalloped corn, roasted brussels sprouts and carrots, green beans almondine, dinner rolls, and cranberry sauce, with a maple bourbon pecan pie and an apple pie.
I shook cocktails with a baby on my hip, we drank too much and then brought out the wigs, shared stories, and then guests did the dishes.
It was perfect, and I really love these people.
We just got home from picking up our Christmas tree, so tomorrow I’ll be putting on my Mrs. Claus apron and getting to work transforming our home into a magical winter wonderland. Bring on the eggnog and Ella Fitzgerald!
