52 Dinners - Week 44: Girls' Night & Twizzler Straws
Sometimes you just need some twizzlers and a tub of spreadable cheese.
“Girls night this week?” is the message that Hilary from Morey Hill Farm sent to Marina and me on Sunday.
The timing was right, since Bailey has been away all week at a flower farmer conference, and I was honored to be included as one of the gals. These two queens braved last night’s snowfall to come over for us to cook together, share secrets, and talk about boys.
Hilary brought a tub of jalapeno and cheddar pub cheese, which is as delicious as it is silly. We hit it hard.
And as everyone knows, pub cheese pairs nicely with red licorice, so I mixed up some manhattans and served them with Twizzler straws.
For dinner we made squash gnocchi with brown butter and sage.
As the pasta was chilling and awaiting its boil, I caught up on dishes while Hilary ran outside to harvest kale in the snow, with which she made a perfect little salad with shallot and apple.
For dessert I made a cherry and almond clafoutis with maple and orange zest.
I overbaked it a bit, but nobody is perfect.
It’s so important to make time for one another (and ourselves). I really can’t think of anything better than sharing good food with good friends. Let’s all do more of it.
