52 Dinners - Week 36: Vermont on the Bayou
Denise and Megan are the fun, smart, dazzling flower farmers & designers behind Pistle Productions, and last week they came to visit us from New Orleans!
We took them to the county fair (we live in Orleans County, as it happens), went blueberry picking, talked about flowers, day drank, and then I served up a New Orleans meets Vermont dinner.
We invited our gal pals Emily and Julia and we made it a proper ladies’ night/popup pride party.
We listened to Big Freedia while sipping Pimm’s cups served in these vintage “A” high balls that Mola brought to us as a hostess gift a while back, served with muffaletta crostini made with chopped olive salad, provolone and parmesan, sweet peppers, herbs, and Vermont Salumi salami over toasted Elmore focaccia.
I made a tomato salad with bacon, arugula, red onion, toasted almonds, blue cheese and spicy cinnamon and hot sauce vinaigrette. It was strange and delicious.
Then I served chicken and ham etouffee with a side of garlicy beet greens sauteed in bacon fat.
We ended with warm beignets with maple blueberry compote. Seriously people, if you’re on the fence about buying a deep fryer, I promise that you won’t regret it.
